Coastal Living...Part 1
Backwater Bay!
And here it is...all finished!
I am so happy with the results of my new dinnerware!
I love the way this glaze hugs the texture and magically changes from shelf to shelf.
Making all the pieces...one of a kind!
The inspiration behind Backwater Bay comes from growing up a mile from the ocean,
in a Historic Seaport City, my mother called...The Gateway to the Cape!
in a Historic Seaport City, my mother called...The Gateway to the Cape!
East Beach...New Bedford, Massachusetts!
This use to be my playground!
It's one of the many beaches I use to go to with my family.
This is where I swam as a child, where I played in the sand,
making sand castles and collecting sea shell.
Backwater Bay brings me back to my roots, to my New England.
It brings back memories of rocky coast lines, the smell of the sea,
summers spent at the beach, building sand castles, collecting sea shells,
swimming in the ocean, the smell of suntan lotion and ice cream cones.
But most of all it brings back memories of time spent with my family

But most of all it brings back memories of time spent with my family
and the people that I love!
The texture reminds me of ocean waves and the glaze looks like the sea and the sand!
I love it, and I hope you do too!

I'm calling this color...Stormy Sea!
I'll be doing a post about this color next...Sand Dollar!
So come back and check it out!

Glazing Backwater Bay
I'm finally glazing Backwater Bay...Yay!
I had planned on glazing the first few sets in a combination of two
Coyote Glazes...I'm calling Buzzards Bay.
Here's the test tile...
But, my plans have changed.
I'm doing a test firing with my new favorite glazes,
Duncan Renaissance Glazes
These glazes are fantastic!
They are "the best" glazes I've ever used...so far anyway.
They brush on so smoothly...it's like painting on clay.
They remind me of reduction glazes, even though they're fired in an electric kiln.
And they are great on texture.
So, the glazes that I have chosen for the first firing are...
Stormy Sea
Sand Dollar
Sea Shell
Saltwater Marsh
and
A last minute surprise that I haven't named yet.
I have no idea how it will come out...I've never used it before.
Hopefully it will look great and then, I'll have to pick out a name for it.
Here's a close up view.
Stop by to check out what they look like glazed.
Till next time!

Mansfield Park
Sneak Peek!
I took a few quick shots of my new dinnerware
called...Mansfield Park, before I started waxing and glazing!
I'm calling it Mansfield Park because...
1) My father was born in Mansfield, Massachusetts
2) I love Jane Austen movies
3) Every time I look at it...it's all I can think of!
I'm not sure why?
I'm not even sure if I can call it that?
I'll have to find out.
What do you think?
Do you think the name fits?
These are brand new...just made them last week!
I didn't think they would make it in the kiln, but they dried
just in time for me to put them on the top shelf of my kiln.
I used a new clay body, so I have no idea
how they will look when they're done.
I can't wait to see how they turn out!
Each handmade plate or bowl will be slightly different,
depending on where I cut them from the slab,
so each piece will be unique and different.
I'm going to glaze these in Shino Cream.
The glaze is great with texture and I'm curious to see
how it's going to look on this clay body.
Hopefully they'll come out great!
Come on back and check out the finished product!
Thanks for stopping by!
Till next time! : )
